  • April 2023

    Wed 26 Apr 2023

We have some rather "eggciting" news in Dragons Class. Our first 3 eggs have now hatched. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the other chicks and quietly "egging"them on to arrive before the Bank Holiday Weekend.

  • Spring Term 2

    Fri 31 Mar 2023

On March 2nd, we took part in World Book Day. The children dressed up as their favourite book character and were able to bring in their favourite book from home to share with their class.

During Science Week, we have been carrying out lots of experiments in class.

KS1 children became scientists for a day and investigated magnetism, explored floating and sinking and used their senses to detect what they could smell in mystery pots. They also made moving hovercrafts and a rocket.

Phoenix class revisited their learning on ‘sound’ by finding out how scientists measure seismic vibrations. They made a simple seismometer and also investigated string telephones. Linking to their recent newspaper reports in English, they became Forensic scientists by exploring their own fingerprints and comparing different ones to see if they could identify any patterns.

Dragon class wrote newspaper articles following their visit to the Explorer Dome and also looked at their fingerprints and worked in teams to set up an experiment to look at the differences between using liquid soap and a bar of soap. They will be linking this to climate change in the coming weeks. They have also continued working with ‘forces’ and carried out a parachute investigation.

We also had some extra curricular cricket coaching across both schools.

  • February 2023

    Mon 27 Feb 2023

February seems to have passed by extremely quickly but we have managed to pack in some exciting events during this short month.

On the 8th February, the whole school went on a trip to Paignton Zoo. The weather, fortunately, was kind and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

On 21st February, we had the Explorer Dome come to Middlezoy Chapel. Each class focussed on topics they are currently covering within their science lessons; Unicorn's covered 'Environment and Habitats', Phoenix class covered 'Light and Sound' and Dragon's class worked with 'Forces'.

To round off the week, Mr Hayward brought in four lambs for a visit to Middlezoy. The children certainly enjoyed spending time feeding them and giving cuddles.

  • New Year

    Mon 06 Feb 2023

It has been a busy start to the new year!

On the first day back, we had a visit from Avon & Somerset Police who spent time working with all the children on internet safety and what they should do if they did not feel safe or saw something that upset them. We were also visited by Wessex Water, who taught the children about water usage and climate change and Avon & Somerset Fire Brigade, who spoke about Fire Safety.

Our Year 3 & 4 children have started swimming this term and the Year 2s have been benefitting from some outdoor learning. They have already learnt how to build a campfire safely and create a shelter. They have also built bug hotels and made bird feeders.
