On March 2nd, we took part in World Book Day. The children dressed up as their favourite book character and were able to bring in their favourite book from home to share with their class.

During Science Week, we have been carrying out lots of experiments in class.

KS1 children became scientists for a day and investigated magnetism, explored floating and sinking and used their senses to detect what they could smell in mystery pots. They also made moving hovercrafts and a rocket.

Phoenix class revisited their learning on ‘sound’ by finding out how scientists measure seismic vibrations. They made a simple seismometer and also investigated string telephones. Linking to their recent newspaper reports in English, they became Forensic scientists by exploring their own fingerprints and comparing different ones to see if they could identify any patterns.

Dragon class wrote newspaper articles following their visit to the Explorer Dome and also looked at their fingerprints and worked in teams to set up an experiment to look at the differences between using liquid soap and a bar of soap. They will be linking this to climate change in the coming weeks. They have also continued working with ‘forces’ and carried out a parachute investigation.

We also had some extra curricular cricket coaching across both schools.
