Phoenix Class Year 3 and 4

Welcome to Phoenix Class

Mrs McNamara is the teacher and Mrs Higgs and Mrs Hall currently support the class.

Autumn Term

Halloween Fun!

The children really enjoyed spending time preparing their pumpkins ready to take home and finish off carving with their families. It was so lovely to have the children working together with either the younger ones at Othery or the older ones at Middlezoy, they showed great resilience and team work.

We also had great fun dressing up for Halloween - the children all looked fantastic!

Pop-up books

In D.T, the children have been learning how to use paper mechanisms, such as levers and sliders, to create a pop-up book retelling the story of Jack and Jill.

Hello Yellow!

Many of the children were looking lovely in yellow to celebrate Hello Yellow day! We had a chat about how Hello Yellow day is to raise money and bring awareness around mental health and the strategies that people can use to support themselves, such as mindfulness and exercise. With that in mind, during P.E with Mr Legg, he demonstrated his skipping abilities to the children before the children were let loose with the skipping ropes themselves!

A special visitor!

Akulah Agbami, a founding member of the BLACK* artists on the Move, worked with the children to create some poetry linked to the River Parrett. The children came up with some great ideas, really enjoyed the session and impressed Akulah Agbami with their knowledge!

Girl's Football

During the afternoon, the girls were visited by Freya from Bridgwater Community Sports Trust. She ran a football taster session on behalf of Langport Wildcats.

Fun in French!

The children have been learning how to greet each other in French. They have been practising how to say hello, goodbye, how to ask someone their name and how to respond to this.

Investigating how sound travels

This week, the children have been investigating what happens to sound when we move further away. We had lots of fun using the ukuleles to investigate this!

Sound in Science!

In Science this week, we have been continuing with our Sound topic and have been exploring how sounds are made from vibrations and travel to the ear through soundwaves. This meant a very noisy lesson full of different instruments being played!

Roald Dahl Day!

We had a brilliant time dressing up for Roald Dahl day. In class, we have been reading Fantastic Mr Fox as part of our daily reading so it was only right that we created a wanted poster for Mr Fox from the farmers!

First week of Phoenix Class!

The children have had a great first week back, full of learning and fun. We have done some practical Maths work using the dienes, written some lovely setting descriptions and ended the week with completing some work about the Queen, including drawing a lovely picture of her to remember her by!
