Owls - Years R/1/2 at Middlezoy Primary School

Spring 2017 Topics

Our over arching theme this term is Pirates.  As part of this we will have  pirate role play the FS area and will do plenty of pirate themed activities.  In music we will learn pirate songs and be playing various instruments with our music specialist Mrs Thompson.

The Y1s and Y2s will have two main topics to their writing - information texts about pirates and stories about pirates.  They will also be doing SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and learning poetry.

We will be starting the term with a science topic about materials incorporating learning about seasonal weather.  Barnaby Bear will need both a winter coat and umbrella for the season and we will investigate which materials will be best suited to the purpose.

Later in the term our topics will include the festivals of Chinese New Year and Easter, making pop up cards in DT, pop art and mural making and the history of space travel.

Along side all of this we will have daily maths session this term focussing on multiplication and division, number, place value, rounding, measurements, addition and subtraction, shapes and position.

It's going to be a busy time!

Our class eggs

Our class eggs 1
On the 13th April Owls class put 12 Crested Legbar chicken eggs in the incubator in class.  Each day we have been turning them and monitoring temperature and water levels.  Today (25th April) we candled the eggs by putting a bright light behind them.  Of the 4 eggs we looked at, there looked to be chicks developing in 2.  We are getting very excited and hope the first of our eggs may hatch on the 3rd May.  We will then keep the chicks in class for a few days and look after and observe them, before they go home with Mrs Watson.
